BlueBook

Privacy Policy

Last updated July 26, 2026

The short version. BlueBook has no accounts and no sign-in. The cars you add live on your own device, not on our servers. The optional AI features send only the details of the car you are asking about, and we do not keep them. We use no analytics, we show no ads, we do not track you across apps or websites, and we never sell your data.

Who we are

BlueBook is an independent tool that scores and ranks used-car listings so you can see which one is the better buy. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Kelley Blue Book, and it does not use Kelley Blue Book data. Value estimates and known-fault notes are guidance to help you shortlist cars, not a substitute for a mechanic's inspection.

There is no account

BlueBook does not ask for your name, your email address, or a password, and there is nothing to sign in to. We do not know who you are, and we have no user records to look you up in.

Information stored on your device

Everything you enter stays on the device you entered it on: the cars you are considering, their prices and mileage, your notes, any photos you attach, and your scoring settings. Photos are stored in your device's local database rather than uploaded anywhere. Deleting the app, or clearing its data, removes all of it.

You can export a backup file at any time. That file is written to wherever you choose to save it and is never sent to us.

The optional PIN lock

You can set a PIN to lock the app, and use Face ID to unlock it. When a PIN is set, your car list is encrypted at rest on your device using a key derived from your PIN. That key never leaves your device.

Your PIN is not recoverable. Because the encryption happens on your device and we hold nothing, neither we nor anyone else can unlock your data if you forget it. Keep a backup export if that worries you.

The AI features

Two features send information off your device, and only when you tap them:

These requests go to our own server, which passes them to an AI language-model provider and returns the answer to your device. We do not store the request or the answer on our servers, and nothing sent this way is tied to you, because there is no account to tie it to.

Because listing text and screenshots are processed by a third-party AI provider, avoid including a seller's phone number, address, or other personal details you would rather not share. The features work fine without them.

VIN decoding and safety recalls

If you decode a VIN or look at safety recalls, the VIN or the vehicle's year, make, and model is sent to the United States Department of Transportation's public NHTSA service, which returns the vehicle's specifications and any open recalls. Recall results are shown to you and are not saved.

What we do not do

Service providers we use

Children

BlueBook is a car-buying tool intended for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

Because your data lives on your device and we hold no account for you, deleting the app or clearing its data deletes everything. There is nothing for us to delete on your behalf, and no request you need to make.

Changes to this policy

If we make a material change to how we handle your information, we will update this page and revise the date above.
